Objectives and Scope
At Danaos Shipping, we are committed to upholding the fundamental principles of human rights in all aspects of our business operations. We recognize that our activities have the potential to impact on the lives and well-being of our employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities in which we operate. Therefore, we have established this Human Rights Policy to show the voluntary expression of our commitment and promote the respect for human rights throughout our supply chain and business practices.
Human Rights Principles
Respect for Human Dignity and Equality
We are dedicated to promoting and protecting the inherent dignity of every individual, regardless of their race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws and internationally recognized human rights. Discrimination, harassment, and any form of abuse will not be tolerated within our company.
Labor Rights
We commit to upholding the rights of all workers, including:
- Freedom of Association: Employees have the right to join or not join trade unions or workers' organizations of their choice, without fear of retaliation or discrimination.
- Fair Wages and Benefits: We provide fair and competitive compensation packages that meet or exceed legal and industry standards.
- Safe and Healthy Workplace: Danaos Shipping ensures that all employees and seafarers have a safe and healthy working environment by complying with all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Child Labor: We strictly adhere to minimum age requirements in accordance with international labor standards.
Responsible Sourcing
We are committed to sourcing products and materials responsibly, taking measures to prevent any involvement in human rights abuses, including forced labor, human trafficking, and other exploitative practices, within our supply chain. We work with suppliers who share our commitment to human rights and encourage them to adopt similar policies and practices.
Environmental Responsibility
We recognize the interconnectedness of environmental sustainability and human rights. We take steps to reduce our environmental impact, contribute to the fight against climate change, and protect the rights of future generations to a healthy and sustainable environment.
Transparency and Accountability
We maintain transparency in our operations and disclose relevant information regarding our human rights practices to stakeholders, as well as cooperate with relevant authorities and organizations. We have also established mechanisms for receiving and addressing human rights-related grievances from employees, customers, and other stakeholders.
Compliance Measures
Failure to adhere to this Human Rights Policy may result in disciplinary actions for employees, which could include (subject to domestic law) termination or dismissal.
Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continually improving our human rights performance. This includes regular assessments, training for our employees and suppliers, and actively engaging with human rights organizations and initiatives. To enrich this process and ensure its effectiveness, we adopt the following stakeholder engagement strategies:
Stakeholder Surveys: Periodic surveys will be sent out to gather insights and feedback on our human rights performance. This data will be analyzed and used to shape our ongoing strategies and action plans.
Public Consultations: For significant operational changes that have potential human rights implications, we will hold public consultations to proactively address any concerns.
Periodic Updates: To keep our stakeholders informed, we will publish periodically an engagement report, summarizing the key outcomes of our stakeholder interactions and outlining steps taken to address concerns.
At Danaos Shipping, we firmly believe that respecting and promoting human rights is not only a moral obligation but also essential for the long-term success and sustainability of our business. We work diligently to uphold these principles and we encourage all our stakeholders to join us in this endeavor.
This Human Rights Policy is a living document, subject to periodic review and revision to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness.
Reporting a breach of Human Rights
If there is a breach of Human Rights, everyone has the option to report it either externally through the Ethics & Compliance Policy, or internally though the Grievance procedure.
