Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental and Energy Efficiency Policy

 

1. Policy Statement

Danaos Shipping Co. Ltd., as a leading ship management company, is committed to conducting its operations safely, securely, efficiently, and responsibly, in full compliance with national and international regulations, conventions, and recognized standards.

Our objective is to ensure:

  • Safe management and operation of ships;
  • Protection of life, property, and the marine environment;
  • Security of personnel, ships, and data;
  • Delivery of high-quality services that meet and exceed customer and stakeholder expectations.

We pursue continual improvement across all our activities through a single Safety Management System (DSMS) that encompasses Safety, Security, Quality, Environmental Protection, Energy Efficiency, Occupational Health & Safety, and Cyber Resilience.

2. Core Commitments

Danaos Shipping is committed to:

Safety & Health (ISM, ISO 45001)

  • Preventing injuries, ill health, and unsafe acts or conditions onboard and ashore.
  • Providing safe working conditions and promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensuring effective risk assessment and control measures to eliminate or minimize hazards.

Security (ISPS, Cyber Security)

  • Protecting our ships, crew, assets, and information from unlawful acts, cyber threats, and security breaches.
  • Implementing robust ship and company security plans, maintaining vigilance, and complying with all ISPS requirements.
  • Ensuring cyber risk management is integrated into safety and security management processes in accordance with IMO and industry guidelines.

Quality (ISO 9001)

  • Delivering reliable and efficient ship management services that consistently meet contractual, legal, and customer requirements.
  • Setting measurable quality objectives and reviewing performance to enhance customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Environment (ISO 14001, ISM)

  • Preventing pollution and minimizing environmental impact from our operations.
  • Complying with all applicable environmental regulations and international conventions, including MARPOL.
  • Promoting responsible waste management, emissions reduction, and resource conservation.

Energy Management (ISO 50001)

  • Enhancing energy efficiency across all activities.
  • Monitoring and optimizing vessel and shore-based energy consumption to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Supporting decarbonization goals and the global transition to sustainable maritime operations.

Labour Standards & Welfare (MLC 2006)

  • Ensuring fair and decent working and living conditions for all seafarers.
  • Promoting equal opportunities, respect, and a harassment-free workplace.
  • Providing welfare, medical care, and support consistent with the rights of seafarers under MLC 2006.

Continual Improvement & Consultation

  • Engaging personnel at all levels in setting objectives, identifying risks and opportunities, and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining open communication and consultation with all employees and seafarers to strengthen the IMS.
  • Conducting regular audits, management reviews, and training programs to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance.

3. Responsibilities

  • Top Management bears ultimate responsibility for the effective implementation and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System.
  • Department Heads, Designated Persons Ashore (DPA), Company Security Officers (CSO), and Energy & Environmental Managers are accountable for implementing and monitoring respective aspects of this policy.
  • All employees and seafarers are responsible for adhering to this policy and actively contributing to safety, environmental protection, security, energy efficiency, and quality improvement.

4. Communication and Review

This policy is communicated to all personnel, contractors, and stakeholders, and made publicly available.

It shall be reviewed annually, or as required, to ensure it remains appropriate to the nature and scale of Danaos Shipping’s operations and the expectations of stakeholders.
