Danaos consistently refines its approach by integrating new insights and ESG principles in both strategy and operational practices, aiming to create long-term sustainable value for all stakeholders.
At Danaos, sustainability is deeply embedded in our corporate culture and serves as a key guiding principle in our decision-making process. We uphold the highest operational standards both onboard our vessels and at our onshore facilities to ensure an ethical, safe, and environmentally responsible working environment.
We measure our progress against our commitments and we are proud to report significant milestones achieved on our ESG journey. We have successfully met our 2030 carbon intensity reduction target six years earlier and remain on track to fulfill our other environmental, social, and governance commitments outlined in this report.
In 2024, Danaos decarbonization strategy is guided by two pathways: optimizing the performance and efficiency of the existing fleet while investing in new vessels that incorporate advanced environmental technologies. As of end of 2024, sixteen eco-friendly newbuildings are under construction, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2028. All these vessels, being built in China, will be methanol-ready, and nine will also be ammonia-ready. Additionally, in 2024, we expanded further our portfolio in the dry-bulk sector through the acquisition of three additional Capesize carriers delivered within 2024, increasing the number of bulk carriers to ten in total.

Danaos’ strategy for achieving its environmental objectives is detailed in the company’s Low Carbon Transition Plan (Danaos LCTP), which also includes our GHG reduction targets and decarbonization roadmap.
