Diversity, Equal Opportunities & Inclusion

At Danaos Shipping, we are committed to creating and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace that values and respects all individuals. We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to our success, and we strive to foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and belonging for all our employees, regardless of their age, sex, race, ethnic origin, disability, family and marital status, religion, belief, pregnancy, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, nationality, or any other characteristic protected by law.

This DEI policy applies to all aspects of employment at Danaos Shipping, including recruitment, training, performance management, career development, rewards, code of conduct, facilities, and termination of employment. The principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion also apply to our interactions with external stakeholders such as clients, agents, and suppliers.

We expect all employees to uphold and promote the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion in their daily work, and to always treat their colleagues with dignity and respect.

Principles

At Danaos Shipping, we embrace diversity and foster an equal opportunities environment by:

  • Promoting equality of opportunity and diversity in all aspects of employment, including recruitment, training, performance management, career development, rewards, code of conduct, facilities, and termination of employment.
  • Encouraging our employees to reach their full potential while valuing individual differences.
  • Ensuring that no unlawful discrimination occurs in the workplace.
  • Understanding and responding to the needs of diverse external stakeholders.

Unlawful Conduct

Discrimination can take many forms, including direct and indirect discrimination, and can occur intentionally or unintentionally.

  • Direct discrimination occurs where someone is put at a disadvantage because of one of the characteristics set out in the definitions of the policy.
  • Indirect discrimination occurs where an individual is subject to an unjustified provision, criteria or practice which puts them at a particular disadvantage because of, for example, their sex or race.

Unlawful conduct also includes victimization (unfavorable treatment because of action taken to assert legal rights against discrimination or to assist a colleague in that regard), harassment (as defined in our Prohibition of Bullying and Harassment Policy), and, in the case of disabled employees, discrimination arising from a disability or a failure to make reasonable adjustments.

Reporting an Unlawful Conduct

If an employee believes that they have been disadvantaged or treated unfairly because of one of the characteristics listed in this policy, they are encouraged to raise the matter through our Grievance Procedure. Allegations regarding potential noncompliance with this policy will be treated confidentially and investigated promptly and fairly. Retaliation against employees who report instances of discrimination or who participate in an investigation is strictly prohibited and will be subject to disciplinary action.

Training and Support

Danaos Shipping recognizes that diversity and inclusion are ongoing learning processes, and we are committed to providing ongoing training and support to all employees to help them understand and embrace DEI principles. This includes providing training on unconscious bias, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and cultural competency.

In addition, Danaos Shipping will provide resources and support to employees who may have experienced discrimination or have concerns about DEI issues. This may include access to counselling services, diversity and inclusion workshops and training, and employee resource groups.

Preventing Discrimination

Danaos Shipping is committed to preventing discrimination in the workplace and will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. Any employee who engages in discriminatory or harassing behavior will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

We encourage all employees to report any incidents of discrimination or harassment, whether they have experienced it or witnessed it. Employees can report incidents through our anonymous link or through their supervisor or HR representative, or Compliance Officer. All reports will be promptly, and thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken to address any violations of our DEI policy.

Promoting Inclusion

Danaos Shipping is committed to promoting inclusion in the workplace and creating an environment where all employees feel valued and supported. We will work to create a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to employees of all backgrounds and identities and will provide opportunities for employees to connect with each other and with the company.
