Piraeus, October 29th 2021

DANAOS Shipping Co., managers of container ship ZIM KINGSTON, today report that the fire on board their vessel is now extinguished.

The specialized marine service company retained by the company to remove containers and debris from shores will begin the clean up operation immediately.

The vessel will proceed to unload its cargo as soon as Class has completed their assessment of the damage.

On October 23rd two damaged containers on board the ZIM KINGSTON caught fire, following the collapse and loss overboard of 109 containers earlier that day, due to extreme weather. The Master of the vessel ordered the evacuation of 16 members of the crew with the assistance of the local coastguard, while he and other key personnel remained on board to oversee the fire extinguishing effort. No injuries were reported and the fire appears to have been subdued.

DANAOS commissioned a team of Experts & marine firefighters to come on board and ensure conditions are appropriate for the safe return of the vessel’s crew.
The company has been working closely with local authorities from the very first, committed to following all actions necessary to mitigate the consequences of the incident.
